Above the vallée de Munster, Alsace, photo taken from near the site where Lancaster NN 766 crashed in flames into the mountainside on 7th January 1945. The crew were RAF and RCAF men: all perished in the fire. Local nuns risked their lives to bring the bodies to safety and bury them decently nearby. The crash site looks across at the Great War battlefield of Reichackerkopf, here seen in a storm.
