From Obersolberg, above the vallée de Munster, Alsace, looking across at Hohrodberg at the site [small white arrow] where Lancaster NN 766 crashed in flames into the mountainside on 7th January 1945. The crew were RAF and RCAF men: all perished in the fire. Local nuns risked their lives to bring the bodies to safety and bury them decently nearby.
